This section of a perimeter wall is just a few hundred yards from my home. I’ve walked past it countless times over many years, but this morning it caught my attention, perhaps because of its striking and colourful appearance highlighted by the soft sunlight.

One could say it was an epiphany experience, a manifestation, an aspect made visible which I was not aware of before.

Every brick in the wall has its own life experience; each is weathered or worn in a different manner with a unique identity and colour.

Yet all can be classified as bricks.

If I was to write on or apply a name to each brick, perhaps they could be visualised as representing hearts of stone of different size, or even flesh of varied colour?

But they also appear in communion, supporting and bonding with each other, whatever their condition, dimension or placement.

Perhaps, even representing a retaining wall of faith?
